When Is The Apple Card Coming To Australia?

While there is no official release date, there are signs that the Apple Card will launch in Australia. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, confirmed interest in rolling out the Apple Card internationally but he noted that banks and regulations vary worldwide.

The Apple Card would make sense in Australia. There are 13 million credit cards in circulation and the iPhone is the most used smartphone by Australians, with 58% market share. However, despite demand in Australia, Canada, the UK, and more, the Apple Card has not left the USA.

What Is The Apple Credit Card?

The Apple Card offers 1%-3% cash back, no fees, and it can link with Apple Pay or be used as a traditional credit card. In true Apple fashion, it's designed to work with all of your iOS devices. Your card info can be accessed with the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

The card itself is made of titanium and has no numbers on the front or back. The issuing bank is Goldman Sachs. As of 2022, it has 6.7 million American cardholders.

Apple Card's Best Features

  • 2 Minute Application. Open the Wallet app, tap the + button in the top right, and tap "Apply for the Apple Card." No credit check required.
  • Daily Cash Back. The best feature is 2% unlimited cash back when you pay with Apple Pay (otherwise it's 1%). You also get 3% at the Apple Store and other select stores. The key part here is you earn REAL cash back (not reward points) and it's instantly deposited into your Apple Wallet. No waiting 30 days.
  • No Fees or Hidden Fees. There is no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and no late fees. Apple even offers interest rate calculators to easily track your payments.
  • Titanium Card. Like all Apple products, the physical card is a high quality sleek design. There is no card number on the front or back for security.
  • Interest Free Apple Products. You can buy Apple Store products interest-free and pay with monthly instalments (while still getting 3% cash back)

1. Wise's Multi-Currency Account

Neo Card
  • No monthly or annual fees
  • Hold, spend, and exchange 50+ currencies at great rates
  • Get local bank account details in every currency
  • Withdraw from ATMs anywhere

If you want to get the best exchange rates, open bank accounts in multiple currencies for free, and send and receive money abroad, Wise.com is the best app to do that. It's quick, easy and most importantly, low cost.

Wise first started as a money transfer app but has expanded to offer a free Wise Visa Card, allowing you to spend in 150+ currencies (including Australian dollars), withdraw from ATMs anywhere (with no fees), and get the real exchange rate. It's a great travel card and offers a great mobile-first experience with no monthly account fees.

Wise has grown to over 10 million users and the currency exchange rate it offers is very good compared to expensive platforms like banks or PayPal. It's also free to sign up and charges no monthly account fees.

2. Revolut Metal

Neo Card
  • $24.99/month
  • Up to 1% cashback
  • Free ATM withdrawals up to $1,400
  • Revolut has over 28 million users worldwide

Revolut offers three card plans, but the Metal tier which costs $24.99/month is the most similar to the Apple Card because of its cashback and more.

While it's not a free card, some of the similar features are that you can create spending limits, receive instant payment notifications, and enjoy a mobile-first experience. However, if you prefer a free card, you can opt-in for Revolut's Standard plan for less benefits.

Additionally, you will get up to 1% cashback on purchases and many other benefits like free ATM withdrawals, great exchange rates, and more. The card itself is made of "solid reinforced steel" but if you don't want to use the physical card, you can spend with Apple Pay or Google Pay as well.

With over 28 million users worldwide, Revolut is one the most popular super apps and it goes far beyond the card. From stocks, to crypto, to banking, money transfers, and more, there are endless reasons to consider Revolut.

3. Up

  • No monthly account fees or hidden fees
  • High-yield savings of 3.85% p.a
  • Fun design and user experience
  • Zero FX fees and ATM fees

Up is a 100% mobile banking app that has gained a following in Australia, with over 600,000 users to date. Its fun design and easy-to-use interface provides a variety of tools for budgeting, saving, splitting bills, and more.

Like the Apple Card, Up offers a mobile-first experience and insights into spending habits. In addition, it has a high-interest account that pays 3.85% per annum. Users can also enjoy other features with almost no fees, including zero foreign transaction fees, ATM fees, and more. The card is packed with so many features that it's hard to list them all.

Up's main drawback is the lack of cashback on your purchases. However, its wide range of features make it a great Apple Card alternative if you want a fun, free, easy-to-use card.

Hopefully It Comes To Australia!

Overall, it would be very exciting to see the Apple Card in Australia. Assuming it keeps the same features, no-fees, and 2-3% daily cash back, it would be one of the best credit cards on the market with no annual fee. We'll definitely keep a close eye on Apple Australia announcements!
